The Alexander Technique lessons

What happens in a lesson?

Your teacher will use explanation and a guiding touch to help you re-discover balance and ease within yourself.

You start by working with simple movements
and positions such as sitting, walking or
bending the knees which are basic to all

Through experience and observation, you learn
how your coordination works, how you create
tension and how you can prevent or release it

This awareness enables you to change “long- standing” habits and function more efficiently.

You will learn a way to sit, stand and walk
according to your own physical characteristics
and you will be able to take this enhanced
coordination into your everyday life.

You will be helped by your teacher, through gentle movements whilst lying down on a table, to recognise and release excess tension. This will enable you to benefit from what Alexander called “the position of maximum rest for the spine”.
