Alexander Technique Teacher / Cranio-Sacral Therapist
Origins of The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique was developed at the turn of the 19th century by F. Matthias Alexander an Australian actor.
After a successful career he found that he was losing his voice while “reciting”.
Having sought help – to no avail – from the traditional medical profession, he set out to see if he could cure himself.
Through exact observation of his own symptoms, he noticed that while reciting, he became tense about the neck and head. This tension generalised throughout his whole body and then focused on his vocal system.
Starting from this point he was able to evolve a complete approach to posture and bodily awareness that has since been of benefit to many thousands of people.
